Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha has informed that the curfew in the city will continue till December 22.
Addressing the media on Friday, December 20, Dr Harsha said that so far, the city has remained peaceful and no untoward incidents have been reported today. “The curfew will be continued till December 22,” he added.
Speaking about the casualties, the compol informed that so far, 33 police personnel have been injured and that they have been admitted to various hospitals for treatment.
He also stated that a total of seven cases have been registered across various police stations in the city and seven persons have been arrested.
Meanwhile, police have been deployed all over the city to maintain law and order. Security has been beefed up especially near the Deputy Commissioner’s office and barricades have also been erected. According to reports, police have been asking the people, who ventured outside, to return to their homes.
It can be recalled that protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 broke out in Mangaluru on Thursday, despite the imposition of section 144. According to some reports, the protests turned violent after police conducted a lathi-charge against the protesters. Two protesters, who were injured during police firing, died on Thursday night. Since then, a curfew has been imposed on the city.
