Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer for the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency, K. Vidya Kumari, announced the schedule for nomination papers submission for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, slated for April 26.

Nomination Dates:

Nomination papers will be accepted from March 28 to April 4, excluding Good Friday on March 29 and Sunday on March 31. The submission timings will be between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Papers will undergo scrutiny on April 5, with April 8 set as the deadline for withdrawal of nomination papers.

Guidelines for Filing Nominations:

Only five people will be allowed to accompany the candidate while filing nominations, with a restriction of three vehicles within a 100 m radius of the Returning Officer’s premises.

Voter Statistics and Polling Stations:

The constituency boasts 15,76,264 voters, compared to 15,13,231 during the 2019 general elections. The Election Commission plans to establish 1,842 polling stations, a slight increase from the 1,837 stations set up in 2019.

Encouraging Voter Participation:

Vidya Kumari emphasized the importance of voter turnout and urged officials to focus on motivating young voters to exercise their rights. The SVEEP Committee has been tasked with organizing various awareness programs to educate voters and encourage their participation in the democratic process.

Special Considerations:

While home voting facilities are available for electors aged above 85, they are encouraged to vote in polling booths to fully experience the electoral process.
