After a hiatus of 2.5 years, Mangalore University (MU) has opted to advance qualified non-teaching staff to various unfilled positions. This determination arose during a recent syndicate meeting, aligning with government directives emphasizing seniority, the roster system, and post availability in the promotion process.

According to a syndicate member, previous non-teaching promotions lacked adherence to government norms, often reflecting the preferences of senior officials. However, this time, MU is committed to following established protocols for non-teaching staff promotions, ensuring a rule-based approach, the member explained.

K Raju Mogaveera, MU’s registrar, informed TOI that the last non-teaching staff promotion occurred in October 2021. “Government directives emphasize considering seniority and other criteria for promotions. This time, seniority will be assessed from 1978, and a list will be prepared, considering vacant positions and each candidate’s eligibility for promotion. The audit report will also be a factor. The entire process will take approximately a month. The seniority list will be available on the official MU website in two to three weeks. Any objections can be raised with MU senior officials,” Mogaveera stated.

The impending promotions concern roles such as assistant registrar, superintendent, deputy registrar, first division assistant, and others. “Promotions will only be granted if the positions are vacant and the candidates meet the eligibility criteria,” emphasized Mogaveera, emphasizing adherence to the roster system.

Jayaraj Amin, the acting vice-chancellor of Mangalore University, clarified that the decision to promote eligible non-teaching staff is a syndicate resolution. The process has commenced, with the formation of a committee overseeing it. A special committee meeting took place on Wednesday to further advance the procedure.
