Officials seize 7kg gold worth Rs 2cr smuggled in imported car

Mangaluru: Customs officials in Kerala have seized 7kg gold worth Rs two crore that was being smuggled in an imported car by a native of Mangaluru through Kochi harbour.

Kochi Customs Commissioner KN Raghavan informed that 14 crude gold chains of 24 carat, each weighing 500 gm were concealed in the fuel tank of the car.

It is learnt that the car was booked by a person named Moideen Kunhi from Puttur. However, he is said to have claimed that the gold was smuggled through his car by two of his friends who run business in Dubai.

Further investigation is underway.
