Mangaluru: Dejected with dual stands of politicians over the Yettinahole project row, Netravati Nadi Samrakshana Okkoota has decided to picket the Bantwal Taluk Office, on Tuesday December 15.

Addressing a press meet on Friday, December 11, Convener of the Okkoota Dr Niranjan Rai, said that a protest rally will be taken out from Kaikamba Polali Dwara, BC Road to the Bantwal Taluk Office from 9.30 am.

Lashing out at Health Minister UT Khader, Dr Rai said that the minister was speaking against the project in Mangaluru and was batting for the project in Bengaluru. Rai also expressed displeasure on Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel for not taken a concrete step to address the issue. It may be recalled that the MP was seen with the Okkoota members in protests and rallies taken out against the project.

Slamming the government and the opposition, Rai said that though water experts had confirmed that only 9 TMC water can be taken from Yettinahole, the government has been cheating people saying it would route as much as 24 TMC water, which is impossible. “Had the government invested even 10 per cent of the funds invested so far on Yettinahole, on methods such as rain water harvesting and development of lakes in the drought-hit districts, the drinking water problem could have easily been solved,” he said asserting that the Yettinahole project was just to earn fortunes for the politicians.

Environmentalist Dinesh Holla was present at the press meet.
