According to CCTV footage from the church, two men barged into the church and lifted a tabernacle, a ciborium containing nine utensils, a laptop and other items totally valued at around Rs 70,000. Out of these, there were a few items with gold coating, which were reportedly lifted believing it to be made of real gold. As soon as the incident came to light, the Bishop of Mangaluru diocese visited the church and registered a complaint. As the footage was blurred, the miscreants could not be identified.

On Tuesday evening, a team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Kalyan Shetty and Konaje Police Sub-Inspector Sudhakar traced the stolen items to a bush in the premises of an old house in Harekala.

The hunt for the culprits is on.
