Kasargod: In a tragic incident, an Endosulfan-affected woman committed suicide as she did not have money for her treatment. The incident took place at Bellur in Adur Natekal.Rajeevi (60) from Bellur is the deceased. The incident came to light only on Friday evening when she was found hanging by her children who had returned home from work.
Rajeevi, had undergone treatment at various hospitals for Endosulfan problem in vain. The government aid was also not given to her. Doctors had told her that she needed an urgent surgery knowing which she was depressed and presumably, took the extreme step.
She was also ailing from a heart related disease and she needed Rs. 60,000 for the treatment. Further, she had to spend Rs. 2500 per week for the treatment. Other than monthly pension of Rs 1200 she had no help from the government, even though she had applied for the same and run from pillar to post.
She had lost her husband few years ago. Her family survives on daily wage labour.
The body was sent for post mortem to Kasargod General Hospital and was handed over to the family on Saturday.
