Mangaluru: Mangalore is soon to see better railways as Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharam puts forth an amount of Rs 55 crore as funds for a project to develop its tracks and overall infrastructure.
The southern Jokatte and Konkan Thokur railway stations are soon to see a double track. So, one can surely expect improved connectivity in the near future with developments along this 1.98 km stretch which is considered to be of paramount importance.
The Central; Railway Station in Mangalore is also soon to see better developments with 4.74 crores set aside to add more platforms, the sixth one now after the station’s recent inauguration of the fifth and sixth platforms.
Besides this, one can also expect to see a pedestrian override and some shelters, though the construction still remains pending.
Included in this budget is a sum of Rs 1 crore, which will be used to complete the patch work on the Mangalore junction Panambur Stretch. Finally, we also have the Netravati Cabin Mangaluru central station, for which Rs1.2 crores has been set aside.
That is a huge amount and the project looks quite serious, which is necessary, considering how trains are the most common choice of the people of the town, when it comes to traveling from place to place.
