In a remarkable rescue operation, a rare black panther that fell into the well of Shakunthala Acharya, a resident of Edapadavu near Kaikamba, was successfully rescued by the forest department.

Rescue Operation Details
Shakunthala made the discovery while drawing water from the well and promptly alerted the authorities. Forest department officials, along with local residents, initiated rescue efforts early Sunday morning. A net was carefully placed around the well, and a ladder was lowered to facilitate the panther’s retrieval. Furthermore, a cage was strategically positioned nearby to safely secure the panther upon its ascent from the well.

Increased Leopard Activity
The area near Borugudde in Edapadavu had recently experienced heightened leopard activity, leading to the predation of domestic dogs and cattle. This surge in wildlife encounters attracted a large crowd to witness the rescue operation.

Key Personnel Involved
The rescue operation was led by zonal forest officer Rajesh Baligar and deputy zonal forest officer Jagaraj, with assistance from forest guards Dinesh and Kyathalinga, driver Sooraj, and local residents Harish and Ganesh. Additionally, the Bajpe police played a crucial role in ensuring the safety and success of the operation.

The successful rescue of the black panther underscores the collaborative efforts of local authorities and residents in safeguarding wildlife in the region.
