Vasu, a prominent educationist, and politician, passed away on Saturday morning at a private hospital in Mysuru. The 72-year-old, who was suffering from a minor illness, was a former MLA of the Chamaraja constituency in Mysuru and a leader of the Congress party.
During Vasu’s tenure as an MLA in the previous Siddaramaiah-led Congress government, several significant healthcare facilities, including the Mysuru District Hospital, Super Specialty and Trauma Care Hospital, and the new building of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology on KRS road, were established in Mysuru. Apart from his political contributions, Vasu was the founder and Chairman of the Vidya Vikas group of Institutions and V V Educational Trust. He also served as the President of the Mysuru Industries Association and owned the Kannada newspaper Prajanudi.
Vasu leaves behind three children. Known as a close confidant of former Chief Minister Veerappa Moily, Vasu had also served as Moily’s political secretary during his tenure as Chief Minister. The passing of Vasu is mourned by the political and educational communities in Mysuru.
