Mangaluru: Vasant Bangera, a former legislator, stirred up controversy in the Dakshina Kannada district when he made a statement regarding the Soujanya rape and murder case in his speech delivered in Belthangady on Saturday.

“During my tenure as an MLA, I urged for the courtesy case to be transferred to the CBI. Siddaramaiah and others believed that some individuals were good and asked me not to bring up this issue. They said it was not possible to refer the case to the CBI. I had discussions with Chief Ministers for over an hour, not just about the Soujanya case but also about the inhuman murders that happened in Beltangady. Finally, Siddaramaiah himself stated in the ceremony that he had handed over the Soujanya case to the CBI.”

“I believed that justice would prevail through the CBI investigation, but I later realized there was deceit involved midway in the CBI inquiry. I cannot publicly disclose this matter, but whenever the opportunity arises, I will speak up. The truth behind the Soujanya case has been distorted. I will reveal who tampered with the direction of justice and caused injustice. However, I fear that revealing the truth might put my life in danger. Nonetheless, justice has been served in the end for the Soujanya case within my lifetime. I met Siddaramaiah alone and discussed how to investigate this case properly. I insist on conducting a thorough investigation and bringing those responsible to justice. Even the police personnel involved should undergo investigation. I will communicate this to Siddaramaiah, ensuring everyone is investigated impartially, including the higher authorities.”

“Regardless of how influential a person may be, they must face the consequences for their involvement in heinous acts of cruelty and murder against humanity. The fight against atrocities and killings, especially those committed in the name of Soujanya, will persist throughout the nation. I personally arranged meetings between the Soujanya family and Chief Minister, The severity of the Soujanya case has been understood,” he said during the function.
