Puttur: ICYM Diocesan Youth Convention ‘Diaference 2014’ organized by ICYM central Council of Mangalore Diocese in association with ICYM Eastern Deanery was held at Mai De Deus Church Grounds, Puttur on Sunday February 16. The theme of the convention portrayed ‘Youth towards reconciliation and dialogue’.
Rev Dr Henry D’Souza, Chairman, Youth Commission, Karnataka region presided over the function. Addressing the youths from around the dioceses who were present at the Convention, he said “You are the leaders of the coming generation. He exhorted youth to rise above religion,break all boundaries and unite.”
After inaugurating the Convention Shakutala Shetty, MLA of Puttur constituency addressed the youngsters and encouraged them to take up politics as a career. She also said that the present generation must work in harmony with the elders of the society.The society needs selfless leadership and service, she asserted.
Nalin Kumar Kateel launched the Diocesan website www.icymmangalore.com designed by Vincent Mascarenhas. In his presidential address he said, “Catholic community has always contributed towards the betterment of the society. He as well urged the youth to join politics.”
Fr Gerald D’Souza, parish priest, eastern Varado, Fr Franklin, ICYM National Director, Fr Ronald D’Souza, ICYM Diocesan Director, Fr Francis Assisi Almeida, Fr Mari Joseph, ICYM Regional Director, and Prakash, the convenor of Diaference were present on the dais.
Raymond D’Souza, ICYM National Advisor was felicitated. Diaference theme song was composed by Kevin Misquith.
A panel discussion was held on the theme ‘Youth towards reconciliation and dialogue’. Fr Francis Assisi Almeida, eastern deanery Director moderated the session, with Fr Franklin, ICYM national director and Fr Ronald Veigas, ICYM Director, Shimoga as resource persons.
The holy Eucharistic celebration was led by Dr Henry D’Souza, Chairman of Karnataka Youth Commission and Bishop of Bellary.
A cultural programme with ‘Hasyan Hasuyan’ comedy competition was held along with a performance by Milestone band. Dolla Mangalore, Nellu Permannur and Mellu Valencia were the judges for the comedy competition.
ICYM Diocesan president Sheldon Crasta welcomed the guests whereas ICYM varado President Anil Pais proposed the vote of thanks. The Crib contest prizes were also distributed on the occasion.
