Bantwal: Revenue officials led by Tahshildar Purandara Hegde and a police team raided locations where illegal sand mining was taking place at the Nethravathi bridge in Panemangaluru here on Thursday.

Five lorries, one JCB and a large amount of sand stored at the river banks have been seized by the officials.

The Tahshildar took this action, on the basis of complaints of the public in respect of  illegal sand mining activities in the region,

Two days earlier, the Tahshildar personally visited the spot and warned them of dire action. In spite of this, the sand mafia carried on with their activities.

Tahshildar assured that he would take action against those involved in the illegal mining. Drivers and laborers, however, escaped from the spot.

The seized vehicles have been kept at the police station.
