Mangaluru: Celebrating World Tourism Day 2021, Siachen Glacier, the highest battlefield in the world for the first time opened for domestic tourists. The only team from Karnataka ‘Youth of GSB’ took part in this historic moment on Monday September 27.
Speaking to News Karnataka the President of ‘Youth of GSB’ Mangalpady Naresh Shenoy said, “in the beginning, the Siachen military base camp was restricted only to the army personnel. But, the Narendra Modi Government took a bold decision in this regard and allowed the common man to explore the base camp and experience the scenic beauty.”
“Youth of GSB is basically a YouTube channel, which was started 3 years ago where we conduct various engaging activities for the members. Around 165 members went to Leh, from there 10 enthusiastic members in a private vehicle travelled to Ladakh to witness this memorable moment,” he explained.
“On this occasion Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal marked the opening of the first batch of tourists to the Siachen base camp. Speaking at Warshi, India’s last village MP said, the Modi-led Central Government has taken an unprecedented decision today by allowing the tourists to enter the Siachen military area, which is one of the world’s worst war zones. This move strengthens the tourist activities in Ladakh and reinforces economic development as well as aims to empower Indian soldiers too,” Shenoy informed.
