Six candidates to vie for two MLC seats in undivided DK

Mangaluru: With six candidates withdrawing from their candidature, the undivided Dakshina Kannada constituency will go into upcoming MLC polls with a total of eight candidates.

The candidates are Prathapchandra Shetty from Halady in Kundapura Taluk (Congress), Prakash Shetty from Thekkatte in Kundapura Taluk JD(S),Praveenchandra Jain from Padangady village in Belthangady Taluk JD(S), Kota Srinivasa Poojary from Kotathattu village, Kundapura Taluk (BJP), and independents Jayaprakash Hegde from Koorgi village in Kundapura Taluk, Harikrishna Bantwal from Amtadi village in Bantwal Taluk, Alphons Pranco from Kuvettu village Belthangady Taluk and Ismail Doddamane from Manjanady village in Mangaluru Taluk.

As many as 14 candidates had filed their nominations for two seats here. However, Bhujanga Shetty (Independent), Shankar Kundar (Independent), Harish Kumar (Congress), Abdul Jaleel K (Independent) and Sanjeev Matandoor (BJP) withdrew their nominations.

A total of 6,559 voters with 3,191 males and 3,368 females will cast their votes on December 27.
