Belthangady : SP Abhishek Goyal has assured to set up a special police task force to check the increasing cases of crime.
He was speaking at a meeting between police officials and heads of temples and Basadis convened at the Sannidhi Hall at Dharmasthala on June 20, Thursday. The meeting was organised in the wake of several thefts in temples and Basadis in the taluk in the recent past.
The SP further pointing out that the police department faced shortage of staff, urged the heads of the Basadis and other shrines to appoint night watchmen and also install CCTV cameras as it will go a long way in checking the crime. Stating that the Belthangady police station faced acute shortage of staff, the SP said the police station had only 40 staff. He said a request has been made to the Home Minister to recruit more staff to the station.
The SP at the same time assured to leave no stone unturned on the part of the police department in checking thefts and also in apprehending the burglars, also urged the temple managements to be on their guard.

Earlier, the SP along with other police officials visited the Bangadi Basadi which was recently burgled. Several idols were stolen from the Basadi by the thieves who broke open the main doors to entire the shrine.
