Subramanya: A devotee who was performing ‘Urulu Seve’ (vow to roll over ground) was severely injured when a car passing by ran over his legs, at Kukke Subramanya temple area on Monday.

The injured is Ganapaiah from Manadka.

It is said that Ganapaiah has started his Urulu Seve from Kumaradhara and when he reached Vallisha Sabha Bhavan, a car fled over his legs. The driver did not stop the car after injuring Ganapaiah. However, a lady who spotted this incident informed the locals, who stopped the car at Gundya.

The locals handed over the driver and his companions, all from Chitradurga to the police.

It is said that despite the injury, Ganapaiah did not wind up his vow of performing urulu seva half way.

The locals say that when the devotees perform urulu seva outside the temple there is absolutely no security. Vehicles keep moving on the road while devotees perform the seve, often risking their lives. There are no mechanisms in place to control the speed of the vehicles passing by.
