Sullia: Here comes a breather for school students in Sullia Taluk in the region. The students can now shun the load of their school bags and simply enjoy their walk to the school atleast for a day in the week.

As per reports, these schools have decided to follow the footsteps of the Uttar Pradesh government to declare Saturday as a No Bag Day and will formally launch the project on December 23.

On the No Bag day, the students will be revising whatever they had learnt over the week either through an act, drama or any other such innovative method.

Though the formal launch of the project has been slated for December 23, nearly 50 schools in the district have gone ahead with the idea and observed a No Bag day on December 16. The response they recieved for the project has been favorable and children seem to enjoy this new form of learning. Few parents, however have expressed their apprehensions on the project.

Bangalore Mirror quotes B S Kempalingappa, Block Education Officer, Sullia as saying “Children are enjoying the new form of learning, However, activity-based learning means more pressure on teachers.”

Of the 206 schools in Sullia Taluk, 139 are primary schools and 40 are high schools. While the project is mainly focussed on government schools, the department has given schools the liberty to decide if they want to hold No Bag Day for SSLC students since exams are round the corner.
