A bullet which was fired by another team hit Jayaram killing him on the spot.

Addressing a press meet today, Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Dr Sharanappa said that as per details collected so far from the accused, it was a case of mistaken identity. He said that the accused have informed that police that one of the accused – Ramachandra mistook Jayaram for a wild boar and fired at him using Vishwanath’s licensed gun. Only then he realized that he had killed a human in place of a wild boar.

Sharanappa said that ammunition, torchlight and clothes used on the day of killing have been seized adding that further investigation is in place.

Asked if the two parties knew each other, Sharanappa said that it might be the case as the two parties were staying in neighbouring villages.
