Mangaluru: The officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Mangalore Regional Unit have seized ten gold bars weighing 1166.500 gms, costing about Rs 34,17,845.
Specific information revealed that a particular passenger who had arrived by Spicejet Flight No.SG60 from Dubai to Mangalore International Airport on Nov 3 had dropped a packet containing gold sovereign inside one of the toilets situated next to the Immigration area of International arrivals with a plan that the said packet containing gold would be retrieved later on by some cleaning staff having access to the said toilet.
The officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Mangalore Regional Unit rushed to the Airport immediately and conducted a thorough search of the said toilets and retrieved a small packet containing some metal objects wrapped in black insulation tapes. On opening the said packet, it has ten gold tola bars.
Further investigation in the case is in progress to identify and nab the culprit passenger and his associates, said release from Vinayak Bhat, Deputy Director, DRI Mangalore.
