Mangaluru: The Coastal City of Mangaluru is known for its many beaches. Apart from the dramatic sunsets, these beaches were once known to be the cleanest beaches in India according to various independent surveys. But this is not the case now.

Right on the beach where the tourist come in, a lot of trash has been accumulated post monsoon season. Commenting on the condition of the beach, former CEO of Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project Yathish Baikampady said, “for the past one and a half years, the Tourism Department has taken over the beach and they are responsible for its wellbeing.”

He further explained that after Panambur Beach was identified as a major tourist attraction, it changed the way people looked at Mangaluru. “The citizens of Mangaluru have to join hands in cleaning the beach which has always been an important mark in the cities Tourism Department,” he said. He also urged the government officials to take the necessary steps on this matter.

“On a big scale, a Clean Beach Campaign like the one held at Chitrapura should also be held at Panambur, to rectify the situation,” he added.
