Kasargod: The district witnessed outstanding response to the hartaal or bundh called for by the opposition party United Development Front, opposing the administrative failures of both the ruling state and the central government.
The public transport system was hit as all government run buses opted to remain off road while only countable private buses were seen on road on Monday.
All commercial establishments remained closed. Some protesters had reportedly stopped several private vehicles on outskirts and on Kasargod city.
The turn out at schools, colleges and government offices too was on lower side. The commuters were seen struggling to reach their destinations. Though the government had told that shops, buses and commuters should be spared, they voluntarily opted not to take risk.
Several examinations of Kerala university, Mahatma Gandhi university, Kannur university among others have been postponed.
Police have stepped up security.
