Mangaluru: Opposing the Government’s policies for doctors, the Udupi district wing of Indian Medical Association (IMA) will stage a protest outside the district DC office in Manipal on November 16. As many as 200 doctors from the district IMA will protest and demand fair policies for the medical health providers.

Speaking to the members of media on Monday, November 14, Dr. Y Sudarshan Rao, the Vice President of Udupi IMA unit mentioned that the protest was against the Government’s move on introducing National Medical Commission Bill. According to Dr. Sudarshan, “The National Medical Commission Bill will replace Medical Council of India and the policies can create problems in effective health care for the rural people.”

“Since 1956, the Medical Council of India has been operating smoothly and focused on maintaining quality in medical education. In order to favour corporate sectors, the government has brought in this bill so that people with no medical education can get in the profession”, he expressed.

On a separate note, Dr. Rao said, “Non-allopathic doctors must not be allowed to prescribe allopathic medicine to patients. We had recently received information that Ayurveda, Yoga, naturopathy and homeopathy practitioners have been prescribing allopathic medicines to their patients. The IMA strongly opposes this.”

An appeal to call back the National Medical Commission Bill will be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the Udupi DC. The protest will be conducted from 11 in the morning to 1 in the afternoon on November 16.
