Mangaluru: Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath clarified that the BJP government has no role in hiking the water tariff and it was done during the rule of the coalition government in the state.

Kamath has released a document in a press conference held at district BJP office on Monday, November 4 to show hike in water tariff was done not during the BJP government and that decision was taken by the administrative officer of the MCC during the rule of the coalition government in the state.

Kamath said, “water tariff was unscientifically revised by the administrative officer of MCC on June 15, 2019. The revised water tariff is four times more than the previous water tariff. People should note that the BJP government was not in power when such a decision was taken. But, some Congress leaders are now engaged in spreading false propaganda, claiming that the BJP government is responsible for the hike in water tariff. People should teach a befitting lesson to the Congress party in the MCC election.”

Kamath also blamed Congress-led previous MCC administration claiming that despite defaulters of the water bill having been listed out, MCC administration was unable to collect the dues. “ As Congress administration in the MCC has failed, it should be held responsible for the deficit finance in the MCC,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Kamath rejected the rumours of him having mounted pressure on former MLA Moideen Bawa to withdraw case slammed on those who assaulted him recently. Replying to a query Kamath clarified that he had done only a job of a messenger. “A few came up to me and confessed to have assaulted the former MLA. I only conveyed their message to Bawa. I did not pressurise him to withdraw the case,” he clarified.

BJP leaders Bhaskarchandra Shetty, Rajgopal Rai and Raveendra Kumar were present.
