Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and five other districts have been issued a yellow alert by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) which reported that there would be heavy rain and thunderstorms with lightning for the next 24 hours.
The districts that have received the yellow alert for January 8 and 9 are Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Uttara Kannada and Hassan.
According to reports, the IMD said that the storms will occur in all the coastal regions and ghat districts of south-interior Karnataka, whereas Bengaluru and other places in the north-interior region will see rainfall till January 11 due to prevalent easterly winds.
Special Commissioner for Disaster Management, Manoj Rajan said that most districts in Karnataka will likely receive “fairly widespread light to moderate rains”, while isolated places will receive heavy to very heavy rains with thunder in the next 48 hours.
