Udupi: As many as 16 sports persons will be awarded Ekalavya award, and a few others ‘Karnataka Kreeda Ratna 2015’ along with a couple of Lifetime Achievement award, announced District-in-charge and state youth affairs minister Pramod Madhwaraj on Thursday, October 6.
Addressing presspersons at Vartha Bhavan, Brahmagiri, Madhwaraj reveled the names of the sports persons and also said that the awards would encourage them and also encourage rural sports.
Damini Gowda (sports), Vidya Pille (billiards), Pavan Shetty (bodybuilding), Nithin Thimmayya (hockey), Rajaguru S (Kabaddi), Krishna A Naykodi (cycling), Arawind A (Basketball), Arpitha M(athletics), Mohmmad Rafhik Holi (gymnastics), Meghana M Sajjanar (Rifal shooting), Shruthi Tathachar Venugopal (lawn tennis), Anup D’costa (volleyball), G M Nishchitha (badminton), Shavad J M(para athletics), Umesh R Khade (para swimming) and Kanchan Munnolkar (weight lifting) will receive the Ekalavya award. The Ekalavya award carries Rs 2 lakh cash prize, scroll and a bronze idol of Ekalavya.
D N Rudraswamy (yoga), Poornima P (throwball), Amogh U Chachadi (Atya patya), Ranjitha M P (ball badminton), Pradeep K C( Kho Kho), Sumitha U M (Kabaddi), Dr Jeevandhar Ballal (Kambala), Anand Irvathur(Kambala), Anand L (wrestling) and Moshappa Vittal Gulabala (Discus throw) will receive the Karnataka Kreeda Ratna award. The Karnataka Kreeda Ratna awardees will be honoured with Rs 1 lakh cash, scroll and a medal.
Two coaches, John Christopher Normal Kumar (swimming) and Shivanand R (wrestling) will be presented the lifetime achievement award. The award award carries Rs 1.50 lakh cash prize, scroll and a medal.
The awards ceremony will take place on October 7 at J K grounds, Amrit Bhavan Mysuru.
