Manipal: The accused who was arrested in connection with his wife’s suicide hanged self at the police lockup at Manipal station on Wednesday, August 5.
Gayaprasad(20), a resident of Amara village in Banda district of UP is the deceased. He was working in a packing industry in Parkala from the last 15 days.
His wife Roshni(18) had committed suicide on August 3 at the packing industry colony. A complaint was filed against Gayaprasad by his wife’s brother Shivamangal on August 5 at Udupi Tahshildar. As per the direction of tahshildar, Manipal police registered a case on the charges of harassment.
As per the direction of police, the packing industry owner Aboobakkar had brought Gayaparasad at 9.30pm to station and was then locked up. At around 11.30pm, Gayaprasad had asked for a bedsheet as he was feeling cold. After fifteen minutes, they heard some sound and when they checked, the saw that Gayaprasad had tied blanket to the window grill and hung himself in the lock-up.
He was immedaitely taken to Manipal KMC hospital but at around 12am he breathed his last, said Mangaluru IG Amritpal to the media.
Post-mortem was carried out in the presence of District court judge Sunitha. ASP Santhosh Kumar and Manipal station officer Girish S V were also present.
Gayaparasad and Roshni got married 3 months ago and according to Roshni’s brother Shivamangal, Gayaprasad used to harrass her physically as well as mentally. After few days of marriage, Gayaprasad had attempted to set Roshni on fire at his native place. Even after they came to Parkala, he used to harass her daily.
A week ago the couple had fought on some issue and Gayaprasad himself had attempted suicide. Roshni who was distressed over all these problems ended her life, her brother said.
