‘Backward Classes need to be strengthened’

Udupi: District Congress Backward Classes Unit officials meeting was held at Udupi District Congress Bhavan, Nairkere near here on Saturday February 12.

The meeting was presided over by Sankappa A., President of District Congress Backward Classes and he welcomed the gathering.

Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, President of Udupi District Congress, said that there is a need to organise and strengthen the backward classes. The Udupi District Congress Party Committee will organise Backward Classes Convention soon at Udupi District level. In this regard Congress Party workers should increase the membership of the Congress party and should make the convention to success, he said.

State President of Congress Backward Classes M. D. Lakshinarayana inaugurated the programme and said that everyone and every caste was given priority in the Backward Committee. There was no information about the caste before. Siddaramaiah had set up a committee to look into the time when he was the Chief Minister. However, the present government has not accepted this report and has not paid heed for our request.

Commenting on the District Convention, he assured that he would call on the State leaders if the district does not respond. As the days are moving, the Government is getting deeply mired in corruption and inactiveness. People have little confidence in the Government. BJP is scared to hold elections, he said.

He continued that the booth committee should be composed of 25 sections. We must win in the election, and until then we should not rest, he said and added that the second phase of the membership registration campaign should give more importance to the youth in the units.

Tukaram Shastri, Vice-President of the State Backward Class Unit, B. L. Harish, and Vishwas Kumar Das, President of the Dakshina Kannada District Backward Classes unit, spoke on the occasion.

Udupi District Congress Committee General Secretary K. Annayya Sherigar compered the programme. State Congress Backward Classes Unit Secretary Shivaji Suvarna proposed the vote of thanks.
District Congress Vice-President Prakyath Shetty, General Secretary Yatish Karkera, Block Presidents Dinakar Herooru, Ramesh Kanchan, Backward Class Unit officials Manikantha, Dinesh Bangare, Manjunatha Poojary, Srinivas Shettigar, Mahabala Madivala,  A. P. Raju Poojary, Mohan Poojary Giliyaru, Srikumar, Lakshmeesh Shetty, Chandrika Shetty, Sulochana, and Anusha were present.
