Udupi: Farmers blocked the National Highway 66 here in Brahmavar on Saturday November 6 protesting against the Government’s failure to announce the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the fresh paddy crops.
Among many other demands, the farmers also urged to set up mills in the region that will buy paddy grown by the farmers of the district.
The price fixed in Karnataka for paddy procurement is Rs. 1,700 per quintal while now farmers are demanding the support price be at least Rs. 2,500 per quintal at the earliest. Alternatively, the farmers want the government to arrange for procurement centres at the village level.
