Udupi :The traditional ritual Samudra Pooja was offered by large number of fishermen at Malpe beach on the full moon day on Sunday, August 10.
As per the ritual, the fishermen will venture into sea only on the next day of the pooja. During the pooja, devotees offered milk, tender coconut and offered prayers to safeguard and protect them and their family members.
Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA performed the pooja with the members of Mogaveera Sangha. This pooja is offered traditionally every year.
He also said that the Pournami (full moon) day in Karkataka month of Hindu traditional calendar is the day to start fishing after a three month long fishing holiday during monsoon season.
The day is auspicious for all the people who are engaged in fishing activities.
Vinay Kumar Sorake, Minister in-charge, Yashpal Suvarna and others were present on the occasion.
