Udupi: Four persons accused in a huge gold theft case were arrested by Byndoor Police team at Maharastra in a filmy style and a car and gold worth of Rs. 18 lakh was recovered from them.
The accused arrested are residents of Dharmpuri, Madhya Pradesh identified as Ali Khan (31), Awad Khan (33), Ikradhan (30) and Gopal Amadhar (35).
A gold dealer and Maharashtra resident Ishwar Dalichand Porwal (48) has been buying gold in Mumbai for ten years and doing business in Mangaluru and Hyderabad. Ishwar Dalichand Porwal had previously purchased 455.960 grams of gold, a total of 18 lakh rupees worth from a Diamond Art Jewellery and other jewellery shops in Zaveri Bazaar, Mumbai. Ishwar Dalichand Porwal had secured jewellery in a steel box and suitcase while travelling in Canara Pinto Luxury bus from Sheetal Nagar, Mira Road, Mumbai to Mangaluru on June 15. He kept the box under the seat.
On June 15th in the morning when the bus was parked in front of Shiv Sagar Hotel, near Shiroor for breakfast, the bus cleaner saw one unidentified person enter the bus. Meanwhile the bus cleaner also saw the person who went to a nearby parked white colour Briz car. While the passengers were having breakfast, the bus cleaner informed the passengers that one stranger had entered the bus and left with a car parked nearby. Immediately, Gold dealer Ishwar Dalichand Porwal entered the bus and saw the steel box which was secured under his seat and missed gold ornaments were missing.
Porwal complained to the Byndoor Police and told the police that around 465.960 grams of gold ornaments were missing from the bus.
Under the supervision of district Superintendent of Police (SP) N. Vishnuvardhan and Additional SP ST Siddalingappa and Kundapur Deputy SP Srikanth, and Byndoor Circle Inspector Santhosh Kaikini team acted immediately and the theft accused was arrested on Sunday June 19 by the Gangolli Police Sub-Inspector Vinay M. Korlahalli and Crime Branch Police Mohan Poojary, Nagendra and Shridhar at Songir Toll gate of Dule District, Maharastra and recovered all the gold stolen. The Briz Car valued Rs. 8 lakh with two mobile phones were also recovered.
