Udupi: The Udupi District Sessions Court on Thursday, October 15 awarded life-term imprisonment to the three accused in the 2013 Manipal gang-rape case.
The main accused Yogish Poojary, Hariprasad Poojary and Anand were awarded life imprisonment for kidnapping, posing life threat and rape. The trio has also been ordered to pay a fine of Rs one lakh each for gang-rape, Rs 5,000 each for posing life threat and Rs 5,000 each for kidnapping.
It may be recalled that a medical student of Manipal College was raped on June 20, 2013.
The court also held Balachandra (brother of Yogish Poojary) and Harindra (brother of Hariprasad Poojary) guilty of destroying evidences. They have been sentenced to a jail term of three years and a fine of Rs 5,000 each.
Judge Shivashankar B pronounced the judgment and the quantum of punishment.
