Minister and MLAs visit boat tragedy victims, offer quick aid

Udupi: Fisheries Minister Mankala Vaidya visited the homes of the deceased in the boat tragedy at Karkikali, Uppunda village, Byndoor taluk today. He offered condolences to the bereaved families and provided a compensation of Rs 6 lakhs to Nagesh’s family, with a promise to offer compensation to the other victim’s family after two days, as the body has not been found yet. He assured that one lakh rupees would be given for damaged boats.
Local fishermen here had been depending on other ports. They requested to travel an additional 250 meters to perform fishing activities. The locals had made representations to the authorities for proper completion of Koderi port. Present and former legislators have already expressed their concern over this issue. Additionally, assurances have been given regarding the provision of relief funds and kerosene.
Bantawala MLA Gururaj Gantiholi, former MLA Gopal Pujari, Bantawala Congress Block President Madan Kumar, BJP Mandal President Deepak Kumar Shetty, Suresh Shetty, Raju Pujari, Nadadoni Boat Association President Anand Kharkvi, Ranibale Okkuta President Venkataraman Kharkvi, Ramachandra Kharkvi, and officials from the Fisheries Department, police officials, and local residents Nagesh Kharkvi were present at the gathering.
