Udupi/Mumbai: The police managed to trace a missing lad from Udupi through Facebook and handed him over to his step father, who had lodged a missing complaint in the early 2015.
Premkumar went missing on 20 January 2017 from a playground in Manipal. Step father Sridhar Amin lodged a missing complaint on 31 January 2017 alleging kidnap and the jurisdictional police had accordingly registered a complaint under IPC Section 369.
Premkumar, a resident of Hudco Colony in the town remained active on FB and his activities were closely monitored by the an official monitoring human trafficking cases.
Premkumar, not keen on studies, had left home to become self-reliant and reached Mumbai, it is gathered. He was working in a small eatery in Kalbadevi of Mumbai to eke a living. Bengaluru police who first traced his activities on FB, when he uploaded his photograph kept the Udupi police updated.
After a prolonged search, police, in a joint operation, managed to trace Premkumar and brought him back to his hometown. Premkumar confessed to have worked in a small food outlet in Mumbai after leaving his home town and confirmed of not getting involved in any anti-social activity. He also ruled out the kidnapping angle, which his step father had suspected while lodging the complaint.
