Udupi: Oscar Fernandes was “Ajathasathru”, who never had any enemies. His contribution in making Congress party strong will be remembered, said D K Shivakumar, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President.
Speaking to media persons after paying his respect to Oscar Fernandes at Congress Bhavan today on Tuesday, September 14, DK Shivakumar said that I had a personal touch in politics with Oscar for four decades. He had a simple and honest personality.
When Oscar was the Union Minister for National Highways, he had upgraded the Bengaluru-Mysuru state highway into the national highway. When he was a Union Labour Minister, Oscar converted ESI Hospital into a Medical College and made scope to get medical education free of cost to children of labour. Meanwhile, he had provided fundamental facilities to the labour and made the labour department strong. He had done a lot of work for more than five decades for the poor people of the country. His contribution to the state and the country would be never forgotten, he said.
In his long career in politics, he served as president of the State Congress party twice, AICC secretary, Chairman for various departments. We have lost a great friend and great leader. His demise is a great loss to the party and the people, Shivakumar added.
