Udupi: Three engineering students from Kottayam, Kerala, drowned in sea at St. Mary’s Island near Malpe beach of the District on Thursday April 7.
The deceased have been identified as Allen Reji (22), Amal C. Anil (22), and Antony (21). A team of 42 students from Mangalam College of Engineering, Ettumanoor, Kottayam along with their faculty had come on a leisure trip to St Mary’s Island. One among students who entered dangerous zone to take selfies slipped and fell into the sea. Two other students jumped to save him into the sea only to drown.
It is learnt that the students ignored the danger warning given by lifeguards on duty at the island.
