Udupi : The three-day sports meet of the district police was inaugurated by national-level sportswoman Sandra Ancilla D’Souza at the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium, Ajjarkad by releasing a bunch of balloons here on Wednesday, December 27.
In her inaugural address, Sandra Ancilla D’Souza said that while the police personnel may be physically fit, the aspect of mental fitness should not be ignored. Sports is very important to all as not only does it keep us physically fit but ensures our mental health too. “Sportsman spirit teaches us to accept our defeats graciously too,” she said.
DAR Udupi, Udupi sub-division, Kundapur sub-division, Karkala sub-division, and Women’s wing participated in the march fast.
Dr. Sanjeev M Patil, Superintendent of Police welcomed the gathering. In his key note address the SP said, “Sports helps police to maintain their heath. The Police personnel are busy in their work. Organizing such sports meet will help police to maintain their physical health which is most important for their career.”
Police athlete Nagesh Gowda, CPC, Byndoor Police station brought Olympic sports torch and the chief guest Sandra received the torch. Sahadev S Yammoji, RSI, DAR Udupi received the oath from the athletes’.
Kumarachandra KSPS, Additional Superintendent of Police proposed vote of thanks. B. Manmohan Rao, PSI, Udupi control room compered the inaugural programme.
Various track events, Kabbadi, cricket, various track events, volleyball, tug-of-war, shooting and other various competitions are being held during the sports meet.
