Udupi: Pejawar seer Vishweshatheertha Swamiji has opined that the controversy around the story of idol of Lord Sri Krishna changing direction to give darshan to his ardent devotee Kanakadasa must end.
Addressing Kanaka Jayanthi celebration in Temple Town of Udupi, the seer said that lot of intellectuals, traditional persons and of course the progressive thinkers have rejected the story that Lord Krishna gave Darshan through ‘Kanakana Kindi’ to Kanakadasa, but the fact is that there are ample proofs and evidences to establish the age-old story.
“The traditional believers agree with the idea of all other aspects like the existence of Vadirajatheertha, Dvaitha philosopher who knew the strength of Kanakadasa’s devotion to his Lord. But some believers oppose the issue of Kanakana Kindi at Sri Krishna Mutt. There are clear references in song sung by Vadiraja at the times of Kanakadas that the incident did happen,” the seer said adding that the role of the Kanakadasa in the society is great because he gave message of humanity without difference of caste and creed.
Minister Pramodh Madhwaraj, Prof B. Shivarama Shetty, resourceperson of the event, Umashanker Swamiji of Bengaluru, Haihole ZP member Gangubai, Rathayathra Secretary K. R. Prabjavathi, former Udupi cmc President Yuvaraj, Alevoor Grama Panchayat President Srikanth Nayak, Social worker Nithyananda Olakkadu, S. R Jayaram Bengaluru, Revanna Kaginele, Parasusram and others were present. Earlier the Kanaka Sadbhavana Jyoti Rathayatra arrived at Jodukatte from Mangaluru and it took out a procession to the Sri Krishna Math via main streets of Udupi city. The procession concluded with a pooja at the newly renovated Kanaka Gopura in front of Sri Krishna Temple. There was also special pooja offered at the place of Kanakadasa statue on the occasion.
