Karkala: In a tragic incident, a temple priest lost his life after plunging into a well at his residence in Karkala on Friday morning. However, his wife and daughter were rescued from the well.
While many say that it was a suicide bid, the wife and daughter of the priest say that it was an accident and not a suicide bid at all.
On Friday morning, Ganapathy Bhat’s wife Shyamala had been to the well to draw water. She says she lost balance and fell into the well and hearing her cry, her daughter and husband plunged into the well to rescue her. While Shyamala and her daughter Rashmi clung on to the rope of the well and saved themselves, Ganapathi Bhat drowned.
But, as per some, Bhat had decided to quit working at Ananthashayana temple due to difference of opinion within the temple and an evidently dejected Bhat had spoken about the same to many. Hence it is unclear as to whether the family is speaking the truth or the speculations of the villagers can be correct.
A case has been registered.
