Udupi: By the end of March 2018, all work on NH 66 from Surathkal to Kundapur will be completed, said the National Highway Project Director Vijay Kumar Samson to BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje, during the district development meeting at Rajathadri, Manipal, here on December 8.
He said that work on only 8 km of the highway’s stretch was pending, out of the 90 km project, which will be completed by the end of March. As per the contract, both sides of the national highway are to be constructed, he said, adding that the flyover bridges would also be competed by that time.
The official asked Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis for police protection while the road work is in progress, after which the DC asked them for particulars of the date and time in a letter so that the request could be passed on to the police. She also asked the official to remove all plants from the dividers of NH 66 at the earliest.
The National Highway Authority reported that the DPR had concluded that the road work from Thirthahalli to Kamaralli would cost Rs 110 Crore and the road work from Malpe to Parkala would cost another Rs 110 Crore.
Karandlaje also inisted that the target of the housing project should be completed at the earliest as there were 8872 shelterless people in the district.
In all, 6932 ration cards have been processed out of the 8112 applications received, which will be sent by post to the applicants, while the remaining applicants will be receiving theirs soon, according to a Food and Civil Supplies department official.
Gracy Gonsalves, Assistant Director of the Women and Child Development department also spoke.
Zilla Panchayat President Dinakar Babu and CEO Shivanand Kapasi among others were present during the meeting.
