Hebri: Team Shantiniketan of Kuchurru, Kudibailu organized a Swacch Bharath Program on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, yesterday.
The Gandhi Jayanthi Swacchatha Program was led by Team Shantiniketan on Oct 2nd, tidied an old bus stop, transforming it into a new one by painting it with new colors. The local residents cheered them on as they saw the new bus stand emerge from the shadows of its dilapidated moorings.
Before they went on to sprucing up activity, the members of the Shantiniketan celebrated the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shashtri at 8 am in their office. Around 8:30, the team members of the youth wing began the work of cleaning the bus stop including the three adjacent roads. The team ahd cleaned a bus stop near Hebri Government College the previous year, creating a sanctuary for the many residents of the area.
But then none came forward to maintain it for a year. So the Shantiniketan team took it upon themselves to do the needful
The costs of the process were borne by the Team Shantiniketan itself. Tahashildaar Mahesh Chandra, Hebri; Radhakrishna Shetty, Main Official, Panchayat, Hebri; Vijay, PDO; H K Sudhakar, President came forward to support the cause. The team had earlier conducted cleaning programs in the areas of Kucchuru, Shashtrinagara Primary High School, Hebri in association with the Nehru Youth Wing, Udupi, and other organizations.
President of the Shantiniketan Youth Wing Rajesh, Co-President Ravish Shetty, Head of the program Narendra were present and participated actively in the program. The team expressed its gratitude to all those who have supported their endeavours for the benefit of society.
