Karkala: Three Bajrang Dal activists have been arrested on charges of burning down a green cloth clad on a religious entity in Parpala Gudde here.

City Convener of Bajrang Dal Anil Prabhu, Akshay Shetty, Raghavendra Gundaje, Athmananda are the arrested. The police are on the hunt for other three accused namely Ranjan, Ganesh and Deepu.

Sources said that the cloth was burnt in a bid to hurt the religious sentiments of a community and also trigger communal tension.
It is said that about 20-years-ago, a community started using a cave here for cooking food during their pilgrimage, claiming that the cave has connection to their religion.

While the Muslims call it Tipu Sultan cave, the Hindus claim that it is Ambarisha Gudde and Krishnagiri. On Friday January 29, the Muslims after their prayer, had left a piece of cloth used for worship there. A few saffron activists who arrived at the spot, allegedly placed footwear on it and then burnt it. They also captured the video and circulated it among the activists. This video went viral and the incident came to light.

Udupi SP Annamalai and Karkala ASP Dr Sumana visited the spot and took stock of the situation.
