Udupi: In addition to recognizing and encouraging sportsmanship in children, sports training should be done according to the Chinese model, said Udupi-Chikkamagaluru district MP Shobha Karandlaje.
She was speaking during the inaugural address of the Brahmavar Zonal High School students’ sports meet held at the District Stadium, Ajjarkad on Wednesday, October 30. The sports meet was organised by Zilla Panchayat, Brahmavara Zone Department of Education, and Uppoor Government High School.
Addressing the gathering, Shobha Karandlaje said, “China trains children in their early childhood. Likewise, they hire a coach and teach them specialized skills and talents to make them a better athlete. This has enabled China to earn more medals in international sports. So, in India also, children should be made good athletes.”
Earlier, Uppoor Government High School Head Mistress Nagarathna welcomed the gathering and Sathish Shetty delivered the vote of thanks.
MLA Raghupathi Bhat presided over the inaugural programme. ZP President Dinakar Babu, ZP member Geethanjali Suvarna, Janardhan Thonse, former ZP President B L Shankar Poojary, Public Education department Sports Convener S Madhukar, Brahmavar Block Education Officer O R Prakash, Taluk Physical Convener Bhujanaga Shetty, and others were present.
