Udupi: Beach drowning, missing student’s body found

Udupi: According to police sources, the body of a student who had gone missing in the sea at Hoode Beach near Malpe in the District was discovered on Monday September 26.

Two students drowned and one went missing after going for a swim in the sea on the evening Sunday September 25. They were washed away after becoming entangled in the sea’s current and high waves.

Shrikar Gupta of Vishakhapatnam was identified by Malpe Police as the deceased. Nishant and Shanmukha, both from Bengaluru too drowned with him.

Nishant, Shanmukha, and Shrikar were among the 15 students who went to the beach for the weekend. The students were all from the Manipal Academy of Higher Education’s (MAHE) International Centre for Applied Sciences.

Local fishermen, fire services, and police officers assisted in the search for the missing student.

According to police, the students went swimming at an isolated and unsafe location on the beach.
