Udupi: The best friends of a family broke open the door of the kitchen while the house inmates has gone to attend mehendi ceremony and decamped with lakhs of rupees kept in the cupboard of the house.

Prasad (34), a resident of Kantharabettu in Arambodi, Bantwal and Shiba (39), a resident of Kalya, were arrested in connection with the theft of gold ornaments.

Usha Jagadish Anchan of Kangittu in Kalya village of Karkala Taluk. The theft took place on December 3.

Around Rs 4.50 Lakh was kept in the cupboard. Gold ornaments weighing around 156 grams were worth Rs. 9,75,000.

A case has been registered at Karkala Rural Police Station in connection with the theft of precious gold ornaments.

The Police recovered Rs. 9,75,000 from the two arrested accused. The Police also seized 216 grams of gold ornaments and silver ornaments weighing 77 grams.
