Udupi: A calf without a heir, which was spending the day in a helpless condition in Doddanagudde surroundings, was rescued, fed and reared by the locals.

Now, the menace of cow thieves is on the rise in this area and there is a possibility that the calf will be fed to the beef-lovers.

Responding to the public’s request, Nithyananda Olakaadu of the Civil Services Committee admitted the calf to Nandagokula Ashram in Lakshmi Nagara in Kalyanapura under the special care of Ashram Convenor Nagaraj Rao.

Veterinary Doctor Sandeep Kumar has shown humanity by providing free treatment to the calf.

Locals Nanda, Savita Naik and Asha helped in the rescue operation.
