Udupi: Dalits stage protest against Central Government

Udupi: Condemning the Central Government’s circular that Democracy existed even during the times of Vedas and Upanishads, Dalit leaders tore copies of circular in Manipal.

Udupi District Dalit Organisations Unity Committee on Saturday November 26 staged a protest in front of Ambedkar statue in Manipal Deputy Commissioner’s office Complex against the Central Government’s circular that stated Democracy existed even during the times of Vedas and Upanishads.

Shouting slogans against the Central Government, the protesters tore a copy of the circular and expressed their anger.

Addressing the protest, Udupi District Dalit Organisations Unity Committee Convener Jayan Malpe said that, a conspiracy is being hatched to destroy the Constitution by issuing false circulars of Democracy today against the spirit of the Constitution of the country. “The Central Government is playing with the lives of the people along with its anti-people policy,” he added.

General Convener of the Committee Manjunath Giliyar said that, the Department of Archaeology of the Central Government and the UGC have issued a controversial circular.

“This is part of a conspiracy to distort the real history of the country and reduce the impact of Ambedkar’s contributions to the Constitution, he added.

Conveners Sundar Master, Shamraj Birti, Harish Malpe, Vasudeva Muddur, Ramesh Kotian, Shekhar Hejamady, Parameshwara Uppur, Dayananda Kappettu, Ananda Brahmavar, Vishwanath Bellampalli and others participated in the protest.
