Udupi: The State High Court has dismissed the bail plea of Shashikumar alias Shashi Poojary, an associate of underworld don Bannanje Raja, in connection with the 2019 kidnapping and death threats of a businessman’s son at Brahmavar in the District.

Hearing a petition filed by Shashi Poojary, single-judge bench headed by Justice M. A. Nagaprasanna referred to several aspects of the chargesheet. During the investigation, it was established that the accused (the applicant) had met Bannanje Raja several times. Therefore, bail cannot be granted, the court said, dismissing the petition.

Giving reasons for rejecting the bail on the grounds that there was a danger to the society if the accused is released, the court said that the accused’s argument that he has nothing to do with the act cannot be accepted.

However, the petitioner’s brother and the prime accused in the case had obtained the SIM card in the name of the applicant while in jail. The petitioner is the second accused in the case and Bannanje Raja is the first accused.
