Udupi: District Superintendent of Police Hakay Akshay Machhindra said that a judicial probe into the suicide death of an undertrial prisoner in a sub-jail near Hiriadka has begun.
The deceased Sadananda Sherigar (52), who was said to have drawn inspiration from the film “Kurup,” was charged with murdering Anand Devadiga to avoid punishment in another case.
Speaking to mediapersons, Machhindra informed that a judicial probe had been ordered since the suicide took place while he was jailed. “After the probe, the exact cause of the suicide will be found. During the investigation, we will determine whether he left a death note or any other evidence that he ended his life,” he added.
The SP further informed that the personal belongings of the prisoner during his prison time have been seized and said that he could not give any further information at the time.
