Udupi: District Congress Committee organised a one day seminar “Nava Sankalpa Shivir” held at Amrith Garden, Ambagilu near here on Friday June 24 for District Congress leaders.

Ashok Kumar Kodavoor spoke briefly at the Nava Sankalpa Shivir and welcomed the gathering.

In his inaugural address Veerappa Moily pointed out various developmental works in the undivided districts, state and the country. He narrated some of his work as Chief Minister, and Union Minister. He also pointed out the contribution to the State and the country by Congress Leaders Oscar Fernandes, Janardhan Poojary and others.

Moily said that once upon a time the undivided Dakshina Kannada District was the base of Congress Party. All 15 legislative seats, 3 MP candidates were from the party in undivided districts. Meanwhile, almost all the seats of Zilla Panchayats and Taluk Panchayats were won by the Congress party. History says that indeed the undivided district was the strong Congress party base.

He said that there should be a need to establish the Congress party at booth level in a strong manner. It’s not possible if the booth level Congress party is not strong. Then it is not easy to win the elections. Hence, District level Congress party administration should develop booth level Congress party. Booth level workers are like soldiers who can make a party strong. Therefore, congress party should be developed at booth level and should inform the achievements of previous Congress governments at the State and the Centre. It was the Congress Government who introduced NEET examinations. Kempegowda International Airport at Bengaluru was built during Congress rule. Meanwhile several other achievements like MRPL, Silicon Valley, IT developments and so on.

He said the BJP Government in the State is a totally corrupt one. Three State Ministers resigned due to corruption issues. Even former Chief Minister Yeddyurappa has also faced corruption charges and resigned. Presently there is no direction for the State Government administration under Bommai Government of BJP. Veerappa Moily also placed failures of the Union Government before the gathering. The high price rise, high rate of unemployment, high price rise of petrol, diesel and LPG sectors were the reasons for the high price rise in the country.

Dhruvanarayan in his address condemned the District Congress for failure to increase membership. He pointed out some of the measures to grow the Congress party. He said the Congress Party gave all possible chances to Pramod Madhwaraj. Congress party made him minister even though he won first time in legislative election. Also Congress party made him as a District Congress Presiden and Vice President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). But, he slipped to another party.

Dhruvanarayan said that the forthcoming elections process has already started. He advised them to appoint booth level Congress heads. There should be a need to establish booth level committees within one month. The Congress workers should be aware of the voters name deleting which would be one of the tricks of BJP in order to control the votes for the Congress. So, Congress leaders should be aware of the addition and deletion of names of voters. He said in order to celebrate the 75th Independence year, in every district level, and booth level people need to organise the padayatras prior to August 15. He also said that there will be 50 per cent reservation for people below the age of 50 for electing leaders in various bodies and seats. He also said that there will be one post for one family as per the direction of the Congress Party. There will be 33 per cent reservation for female candidates for all the posts in the Congress Party.
